Graphic Novels - 09 Nov 2008

We’ll see how I get on with this, but whenever I buy something and I have something to say I’ll post it as a quick list. So what was new this week:

  1. A tribute to Michael Turner - Growing up I was a massive Turner fan and I am definitely sad to see the man go. I can't be critical of his art in the last years of his life, because the man had cancer, but his Witchblade run goes down in my memory as one of my favourite runs ever. This book collects pinups and writings from his friends from all over the industry. Proceeds go to cancer research.

  2. Teen Titans Year One - Only bought this because of the art by Karl Kerschl. It's something that I just NEVER ever do. I've already read this and basically the art is awesome from beginning to end. The characters are very likeable, how they interact with each other is great fun and that's Amy Wolfram's biggest addition. Sadly the actual plot and story was disjointed. It didn't feel like it was a complete story with a beginning middle and end. It felt more like a bunch of Teen Titans stories slung together and failed where Batman Year One or even Robin Year One succeed. Ultimately I've got to say that I felt slightly unimpressed by the overall package and poorer by a £10. Teaches me to buy something based on art alone.

  3. Real and Vagabond - Two books by Takehiko Inoue in the same week. Yes Christmas has come early. One is about basketball, while the other is about Miyamoto Musashi. You should be buying both.
