📚 Finished reading: Cannon by Lee Lai. Just finished reading this in a couple of sittings. I love slice of life. There are a bunch of these that Canadian writer/artists do really well. There were a couple of instances the dialogue pulled me out a little, but the pacing was great and the main characters rang true. Great read.

Damn. Got involved in a bit of road rage….entirely from the other side, over something that I know I was in the right of and he was totally over the top about a ‘perceived’ infraction. It went from 0 to 1000% instantly. I’ve heard that Canadians loose their fucking minds on the road…yup I can see that now. Super pleasant and civil outside of a vehicle. Inside or on one, and manners and civility go completely out the window.

Creatively I’ve been completely away from it. Maybe because we are about to move again and I’ve got a lot on my mind at the moment? I’ve been able to read again. Journalling is also back in my life. Hopefully after the move is over and we’ve settled in a little in the new area I can find my space and go again.

One of the advantages of moving homes as often as we have is the fact that it allows us to reduce the amount of stuff that we carry with us.

One thing I have found to be incredibly easy to move on is anything from Ikea. At this rate it honestly feels like I am renting my Ikea pieces at time, because no matter what happens there is always a market for this stuff.

I am really looking forward to implementing a little bit of polish to our home in the new house.

Throughout the summer I have been reducing my alcohol intake considerably. After a year of trying strong beers, I’ve settled on some lighter beers that just land nicely. Looking forward I am hoping to keep to that level 2-3 beers a week tops.

📚 Finished reading: Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, Vol. 1 by Inio Asano. So much fun to have a Viz series back in my life. The story is fine, but the art is the star for me and the experience of reading a manga series again is what I want.

No idea where the week disappeared to. Been struggling in the mornings to get up. Usually it take a week to get back into things after a break, but it’s taken a little longer this time around. Lots happening in the coming few weeks. September is going to fly by.

I remember walking into Christian’s office to tell him that I had made the decision that I would need to make a move away from Denmark. While I loved the place (excluding the weather), my family was just not settled. More than anyone, I think he understood my position (having gone through the exact same thing with his family).

When I mentioned to him that the choice was Canada, he was surprised. ‘Canada. Not America?’

I have always been someone that likes to look at the long game. Maybe patience is my secret power? In Canada I saw some form of stability over a much longer period of time. Certainly in the short term America held greater appeal maybe, but equally I was scared of many things that never aligned with how I want to live my life.

My wife, who herself is half American asked the same exact question. Canada offered much of the lifestyle that was available to Americans but with a few more guardrails to help protect everyone.

What I could never have predicted was what America would eventually become. Well actually that’s not true, America is showing the worst of what it can be. All the things that I was scared of, as remote and unlikely as they seemed at the time, have slowly and shockingly been manifesting themselves.

The world has changed. Thinking otherwise is foolish. Even when (if?) a new administration comes into power, can you put the genie back in the bottle? Being closer to the political epicentre of the fallout is unsettling, but every change is difficult and this one is happening on a country scale, which will eventually become a world scale.

The question is how long will the rest of the dominos fall and people start to pivot in areas previously unquestioned.

🍿 Finished watching: The Adam Project. Finally watched a family movie. This one had a few swears in it, but nothing my kids haven’t heard before (sadly). Love time travel stories. This one was a 7/10 (even though the logic fails so many times) - by Ryan Reynolds nails his role.

It’s done. Took a while but have now transitioned everything from Youtube over to Feedbin. I will give YouTube their props for creating RSS feeds for everyone’s account, so it was easy. Meta of course locks Instagram in and has no intention to letting you subscribe from somewhere else. For me, I’ve decided to give Instagram a maximum of 10min/day (if I want). It’s a distraction but I should be spending my time on other things than that.

Now it’s about finding interesting websites that can fit within the different categories I am interested in.

Spent a little bit of time this morning cleaning up my Feedbin subscriptions. I’m trying to be more intentional with my free time and Youtube is a colossal time suck for me. I’m pretty good at keeping Instagram at bay, but Youtube gets me. Thankfully Feedbin is pretty good at that.

First day back at work. Feel pretty relaxed again. Got a bit more energy after a decent rest. Usually, I have used the time away to reflect and make meaningful changes in my life moving forward.

Truthfully, that hasn’t fully happened this time around, as I just needed time to switch off. Have a house move in a few weeks time - which is a lot of work, but most things are sorted, just need a couple of pieces of the puzzle to unlock and should be ready to rock and roll.
